Laughing is our own natural feel good drug..
If your event involves a good giggle then it is surely to be a winner...
There is no better proven way to break down any barriers than having people interacting while being in spasms of laughter. Its simple and extremely effective.
Laughter is a part of our behaviour that is regulated by the brain, it helps us clarify our intentions in an emotional context to conversations and assists in our social interaction. Laughter subliminally is used as a signal for being part of a group and it signals acceptance . Laughter is sometimes felt as contagious, and the laughter of one person can itself provoke laughter from others. If you have delegates involved in the team building event that maybe have never met each other, or rarely see each other i strongly suggest involving laughter in your event. That giggle is worth hours of conversation!

What is it that can make people laugh other than a good joke?
Putting people in funny or slightly uncomfortable situations can spark humour. Some team building companies do this very well for example Total Team Building do this very well. They facilitate indoor and outdoor events like their Scavenger hunt that will create plenty of laughter through delegates being challenged outside of their comfort zones in non-threatening situations.
You can see via the video below of a Scavenger hunt exactly what i am talking about...
Offer them team building activities that seem simple but are not. Keeping 3 balloons in the air for 60 seconds sounds easy, right?
Wrong! give it a try... The delegates will all be cheering and laughing as their team mate attempts this task. Whether they complete it or not they will laugh and talk about the situation. This is un provoked conversation that is exactly what you want in your team building event.
Facilitate tasks that have a great outcome.. If you have not seen the Marshmallow experiment then you must try it. Delegates must build a structure from spaghetti and sticky tape to support a marshmallow as high as possible. Delegates will plan and laugh together as they start to build the masterpiece. Give them 30 minutes then the big 10 second countdown... on zero they let go regardless! Whether the structure stand or falls they will cheer and laugh. The ones left standing will gain a good sense of trust and confidence in their fellow team mates. The ones that fell, will laugh it off. Its a win win!
So involve laugher as much as you can to ensure your next event is a raging success!
